Reducing these software risks is increasingly important to business and governmental organizations' economic competitiveness and to people's quality of life. Software Assurance is an umbrella risk identification and mitigation strategy for mission and safety assurance of software systems. Among various activities of software assurance, risk assurance and requirements traceability assurance are two critical and valuable ones to be addressed early and incrementally revisited in the development life cycle. However, manual risk assurance and requirements traceability assurance are often tedious and incomplete based on the unstructured natural language text, which largely reduce the confidence level of assurance. For instance, to determine the correctness and completeness of the many-to-many relationships between functional and non-functional requirements (FRs and NFRs) is a particularly tedious and error prone activity for assurance personnel to perform. Thus automated tools need to be developed to discover risk and mitigation association patterns, requirements traceability links easily omitted by assurance personnel while reducing manual effort. In the meanwhile, although automated/semi-automated requirement traceability approaches have been investigated, completeness is still one of the biggest concerns. In order to improve the confidence level and maximize the value of requirement traceability assurance, effective and efficient support for cooperation between assurance personnel and tools is in a great need and yet lacking in state-of-the-art research and practice. This research explores synergistic cooperation between assurance personnel and text mining tools to reduce the uncertainties and achieve the higher level of software assurance confidence in a cost-effective way. 简介:
