题目:Large Scale Video Search Using Content Similarity 报告人:周晓方 教授 时 间:2008年7月18日(周五)15:00 地 点:蒙民伟楼109室 Abstract: There is a large and rapidly increasing amount of video data on the Internet, in personal and organizational collections. Fast and accurate video search emerges to be an important issue. Lack of meaningful and comprehensive text annotation means that an approach based on content similarity can be prom ising. At the same time, the differences between an often high-level search in tention and the low-level features used in content-based search techniques sug gest that content-based video retrieval (CBVR) may also suffer from ‘semantic gap’ issues. In this talk, I will present an overview of content-based video retrieval research. We will discuss applications, challenges and some recent advances made by my team on this exciting research topic. Xiaofang Zhou is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Queensla nd. He is the Head of the Data and Knowledge Engineering Division (DKE) at UQ. He is also the Convenor of the Australian Research Council (ARC) Research Net work in Enterprise Information Infrastructure, and a Chief Investigator of ARC Centre of Excellence in Bioinformatics. Professor Zhou received his BSc and M Sc degrees in Computer Science from Nanjing University in 1984 and 1987 respec tively, and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Queensland in 1994. From 1994 to 1999, he worked as a Senior Research Scientist in CSIRO, leading its Spatial Information Systems group. His research focuses on finding effect ive and efficient solutions to managing, integrating and analyzing very large amount of complex data for business and scientific applications. His research interests include spatial and multimedia databases, data quality, high perform ance query processing, Web information systems and bioinformatics. He has publ ished over 140 research papers, many in top journals and conferences such as S IGMOD, VLDB, ICDE, The VLDB Journal and ACM/IEEE Transactions.
