报告题目: Web Information Retrieval – An Exciting Frontier of Computer Science 报告人：微软亚洲研究院高级研究员 南京大学兼职教授 李航博士 时间：2007年12月21日 地点：蒙民伟楼 个人简介： 李航博士于 1988年在日本京都大学电子电气工程系获学士学位，1990年在日本京都大学计算机科学系获硕士学位，1998 年在日本东京大学计算机系获博士学位。2001年至今任职于微软亚洲研究院，现任高级研究员、Web搜索与挖掘组主任研究员，北京大学、南开大学、西安交通大学客座教授。加盟微软研究院前他曾任职于日本NEC公司中央研究所。李航博士主要从事自然语言处理、信息检索、统计机器学习、数据挖掘等领域的研究工作，在重要国际刊物以及会议发表论文50余篇。他目前担任国际刊物《ACM Transaction on Asian Language Information Processing》、《Journal of Computer Science and Technology》、《Computational Linguistics & Chinese Language Processing》等的编委，曾担任著名国际会议PAKDD’07和AIRS’08的程序委员会共同主席、SIGIR’08的Poster&Demo主席、PAKDD’08和IJCNLP’08的领域主席，并担任包括顶级国际会议IJCAI、SIGIR、ACL、WWW等在内的20余次国际会议程序委员。李航博士曾参与了NEC TopicScope、Microsoft SQL Server 2005、Microsoft Office 2007、Microsoft Live Search 2007等的研发。
报告摘要：
We are living in a time of information explosion. This is particularly true after Internet became popular about ten years ago; there is really a huge amount of information available on the web. How to help people accurately, easily, and quickly access the information becomes a challenging yet exciting task for computer scientists. In this talk I will give a survey on web information retrieval. First, I will explain what I mean by web information retrieval by giving an overview on it, including the fundamental technologies, component technologies, and application technologies. I will then go through the major fundamental technologies, component technologies, and application technologies. After that, I will quickly introduce what we are doing at MSRA on web information retrieval. Finally, I will conclude my talk by encouraging young researchers and students to dedicate themselves to the research field.
